Micro-pulse Upconversion Doppler Lidar Won the Gold Medal with the Congratulations of the Jury on the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions

Time:2017-04-19

On the just concluded 45th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, the program of Micro-pulse Upconversion Doppler Lidar exhibited by Professor Zhang Qiang and Associate Professor Xia Haiyun won the Gold Medal with the Congratulations of the Jury. In this program, the core component of the equipment "a single-photon detector" was produced in a research platform of quantum public devices called the periodically poled LiNbO3 waveguide laboratory, and was co-developed by Jinan Institute of Quantum Technology, and Shangdong Institute of Quantum Science and Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of QuantumCTek.

This award-winning technology created a laser lidar system with all polarization-maintaining optical fibers, featuring 24-hour observation, light weight, small size, anti-vibration, low power dissipation, and capable of working at room temperature by improving quantum efficiency (incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency) and optical integration (optical efficiency)and suppressing noise detector. It is suitable to be installed on the onboard, ship-based or the satellite-borne platform to operate in fierce environment, and can be used in fields like environmental protection, meteorology, low level wind shear alert system and wind power generation. The technology was vastly covered by authoritative media such as Xinhua News Agency and the People's Liberation Army Daily.

In 1973, Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, one of the most influential exhibitions of inventions, was founded by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the federal government of Switzerland. This exhibition attracted 725 contestants from 40 countries, with over 1,000 products on display and more than 50,000 visits.
